★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This is your NOT TO GO place. I had horrible service today at Wil Graanstra's. Me and my girlfriend went today just to buy fries. It was extremely expensive! More than €5 just for fries without sauces! I paid the €0,50 extra just for a dip of mayo.
However the most the most terrible part was the guy himself. That guy knows definitely how to lose customers. When I asked for something, he looked to me as if I was an idiot and just did not reply and the same happened to other guys who did not speak English that much. This guy doesn’t understand that not everyone speak Dutch.
Moreover,I really got the feeling this guy thinks snd feels he’s better than everybody else, by his way of talking and walking. Although he might limited social skills, you just can’t treat your customers bad and never joke about them. You just don’t do that. Believe me, you don’t want to go to Wil Graanstra's place!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Chips so bad that I made an account to make this review. But the owner is one of the or the funniest guy I have ever met. What a life he has. All day, everyday, all his life he can make chips for tourists. Something to admire. He even makes jokes about that you never should return!! Imagine that whilst he is holding a straight face. Hahah, so funny. Or yelling against tourists. Wasted his chances of being an actor maybe. But now his dream of becoming a mediocre Friteshuis has come true.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Don't waste your time on this place. There are far superior frites in the city. The staff is incredibly rude (and extremely anti-american). The fries are greasy and the place smells funky. Go elsewhere! Chipsy Kings and Vleminckx are much better options!

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Worst fries in Amsterdam. I have lived here all my life and have always finished a bag of fries. This was the only time I left it for the pigeons. I think the problem is not the fries but probably that they re-use old smelly oil. As we say in Amsterdam: gatver.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Like many places in Amsterdam Centre, this place only exists because of a constant flow of new customers (tourists) available there. The owner is rude and belligerent the few times I’ve been, and the fries are mediocre. The worst part is the guy thinks he’s funny.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Chip shops are springing up all over Amsterdam, but there are only a few really great ones, of which Wil Graanstra is amongst the best. Located in a stall in front of Amsterdam's Wester Church, the Graanstra family have been serving French fries here since 1956, prepared from freshly cut potatoes of the best varieties. French fries in fact originated in neighbouring Belgium where, according to historians potatoes were already being fried in the late 1600's. Although the stall sells soft drinks, hamburgers, hotdogs and other snacks people travel for miles to sample the chips which are perfectly crunchy while remaining deliciously soft on the inside. These are served with a wooden fork in paper bags, topped with a wide variety of sauces, of which real mayonnaise is the most popular. Patat Oorlog which translates as War Chips, a peanut sauce-mayonnaise combination, is also worth trying. You have the choice of small or large portions.
