★ ★ ★ ★ ★ A must-see for anyone with any interest in chess who's visiting Amsterdam. My wife's involvement in chess is essentially limited to enjoying movies such as Searching For Bobby Fischer and even she loved it. Unexpectedly great.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice place to learn a bit about chess history. It is not in English, but one of the workers gave us an awesome little tour. The 'museum' is very small, but there's a study center where you can play for as long as you want. And free coffee ;)

This square is named after Mr. Max Euwe - the Dutch Chess Grandmaster. He was the fifth player to become World Chess Champion, a title he held from 1935 until 1937.
The buildings on the square consist of houses, shops and restaurants. Actually this is an entertainment area including the Hard Rock Cafe and The Holland Casino.
The Max Euwe Museum is also located on this square (house number 30a). The museum is a bit hard to find because it is located on the 3rd floor and the ground floor door is always locked. Need to wait somebody get in or out to help us open the door.
There’s one big chess board on the centre where you can challenge a stranger for a friendly match.
