Bar/restaurant Pastis is gelegen tegenover het Bosboom Toussaintplein in de sfeervolle helmersbuurt in Amsterdam Oud-West. Het restaurant fungeert veelal als huiskamer voor de buurt waarbij de sfeer ongedwongen is. De keuken is Frans georiënteerd met af en toe een uitstapje naar het Middellandse zeegebied. De kaart wisselt regelmatig en er wordt zoveel mogelijk gekookt met duurzaam geproduceerde en seizoensgebonden producten waarbij de gerechten vriendelijk geprijsd zijn. Borrelen of eten op het terras is mogelijk. Op de vide waant u zich wellicht eventjes in Frankrijk.

We loved the escargot, beef tartare.
The main course options are great too - salmon, steak, seabass - on the smallish side, so get an appetizer for sure.
Side salad was tasty, not just an afterthought.
Service was good, friendly
Dinner for 3 with wine was €140

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice decor, nice atmosphere, but definitely overpriced. The pretentiousness of the menu is not matched by the quality of the food, which is just average. It might be worth it at 25-30% less that what it costs.
The bread is very good.

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ After a day of visiting museums and being a tourist walking the canal streets of Amsterdam needed an early supper found Pastis. We did make a reservation and glad we did, as the restaurant was full. The surprise was being seated on a second level, it was like a open balcony over the dinners below. Menu provided a selection of food tastes to choose, medium priced, service good, able and willing to describe menu items. Would return when visiting

★ ★ ★ ★ ★ Nice French bistrot in West on two floors and a terrace that on a sunny day must be amazing. The place is quite small but with lots of tables, so the atmosphere is vibrant and alive. The menu is on one page, not so many options but a selection of starters, main and desserts. We chose a paté and a beef tartare, then the veal as main (our favourite dish) and ice-cream with caramel and creme brulé as dessert. A bottle of Suavignon blanc as drink (very good but it could have been served colder). Nice service, cozy place, liked the food, we paid 109€ in 2, overall it was a good night and we'll come back!
