★ ★ ★ ★ ★ De kalksteen in de groeve stamt uit het Boven-Krijt en betreft de Kalksteen van Valkenburg uit de Formatie van Maastricht. Deze kalksteen is geelgrijs van kleur. In de bedding met de Geul en een steilwand langs de Geul bevindt zich de Kalksteen van Lanaye uit de Formatie van Gulpen. Deze kalksteen is wit van kleur en heeft zwarte vuurstenen. Tussen deze twee kalksteenlagen zit de Horizont van Lichtenberg.
In de Zuid-Limburgse ondergrond gaat van het westen richting het oosten de Maastrichtse kalksteen geleidelijk over in Kunrader kalksteen die bestaat uit harde en zachte kalksteenbanken. In de groeve is deze overgang goed te zien doordat vuursteenbanken hier vrijwel verdwenen zijn en de harde en zachte kalksteenlagen reeds zwak zichtbaar zijn. De kalksteen in dit overgangsgebied wordt Schaelsberg kalksteen genoemd.
Vanaf de groeve omhoog richting de Daolkesberg is tot aan de spoorlijn aan de randen van het pad Kunrader kalksteen te zien. Vanaf de spoorlijn verder omhoog naar de Daolkesberg worden de harde kalksteenlagen steeds minder duidelijk. In de kalkwand van de Daolkesberg is de Horizont van Romontbos te zien met erboven Kalksteen van Emael.

 The limestone in the quarry originates from the Upper Cretaceous and concerns the Limestone of Valkenburg from the Maastricht Formation. This limestone is yellow-gray in color. In the bed with the Geul and a steep wall along the Geul is the Limestone of Lanaye from the Gulpen Formation. This limestone is white in color and has black flints. Between these two limestone layers is the Horizont van Lichtenberg.
In the South Limburg underground, the Maastricht limestone gradually changes from west to east into Kunrader limestone, which consists of hard and soft limestone banks. This transition is clearly visible in the quarry because flint banks have almost disappeared here and the hard and soft limestone layers are already faintly visible. The limestone in this transition area is called Schaelsberg limestone.
From the quarry up towards the Daolkesberg limestone can be seen up to the railway line at the edges of the Kunrader path. From the railway line further up to the Daolkesberg, the hard limestone layers become less and less clear. In the limestone wall of the Daolkesberg, the Horizont van Romontbos can be seen with Limestone from Emael above it.
