★ ★ ★ ★ ★ This monument stands in tribute to Ulrik Huber, a 16th century jurist, political philosopher and a professor of law at the University of Franeker. His major works include His major work, De jure civitatis libri tres, Heedensdaegse Rechtsgeleertheyt soo elders and The Jurisprudence of My Time. Although he is probably best known for his treatise on conflicts of law, which hugely influenced English and American jurisprudence.
This sculpture sits on Korte Voorhout as part of a sculpture ensemble that includes other well known Dutch jurists. It features a seated Huber, dressed and looking like a gentleman of the 16th century. The statue is a little cartoonish and not at all life like. It's a little way from the main tourist circuit in Den Haag, so I wouldn't go out of the way to visit unless already planning on visiting the Supreme Court of Netherlands.
