I would not recommend going here with a big group, not even if your company is paying. If you do go here, choose the chef's menu WITH starters, otherwise your employees/guests will definitely remain hungry (and even with the starters they might still be hungry). This is very common for restaurants, but the only option for large groups is the "chef's menu", where the chef chooses what you get. Unfortunately, this is not worth the price you pay and our employees ended up still hungry, and some went to get more food somewhere else after the meal. We chose the chef's menu without starters (this was a mistake), with mostly vegetarian choices, to cater to our group's dietary needs. What follows is a calculation, as an example, to explain why I say the chef's menu is not worth the price. As you would expect, the dishes we were given were mostly cheap ones (most restaurants do this, it makes sense for them financially, of course). For instance, dhal, saag paneer, bombay potatoes... The most expensive dish we were given was probably the lamb curry. Per person, we ended up eating, on average, one curry (including very small portion rice, small portion salad, value: approx. 15€), one quarter of a garlic naan (value: approx. 1€ per quarter of naan), and one pappadam with chutney (value: approx. 1.50€). The portion sizes are quite small. The total average value per person was therefore 17.50€ (if we had ordered this food as a regular group, rather than via the "chef's menu" - prices I have named were taken directly from their website). Because this was sold to us as the "chef's menu", we each paid 24.50€ per person for the food (plus extra for drinks). This is a mark-up of 7€ extra per person, or 40% more than the typical price on the menu, simply because we were in a large group. Starters would have been an extra 8€ per person, and I have no idea what we would have been served. Unfortunately, I fear it wouldn't have helped to fill us up much more. Many people at the table mentioned still being significantly hungry after finishing the food, which is the most important point of criticism (regardless of price). I have yet to go to a restaurant in Utrecht that is good for a large group (~20 people), as they mostly have the same problem as Surya. It is even more difficult when catering to a group of many vegetarians and some vegans. Even more so if the group is diverse in terms of identities, so you want to go somewhere that is inclusive to all types of people. Surya seemed like a good choice, but leaving with hunger is not good. To their credit, their food is tasty and everyone enjoyed. They made everything mild so that everyone could eat the food, regardless of how much spice they can handle. The waiting staff is incredibly friendly.

2nd time we ordered from them in 2 months. they messed up delivery both times. First delivery they said attempted. So we asked for redelivery...2nd ..saw delivery on way..suddenly said delivered...we got nothing. Waited 2 hours in total for them to phone and say something about an address issue. They said we could have credit..or refund...useless. It's actually just above average Indian...

Came here for the first time over the weekend and I am absolutely in love! For a slightly “fancy” Indian restaurant, I am impressed with the authenticity of the flavours. The cheese inside the naan was generous with a strong aroma of butter and garlic, which was amazing (for me at least). The samosa chat was full of flavour and still on my mind 24 hours later. Also highly recommend the raita, paneer makhani and mango lassi. Often times raita is a relatively simple dish with mild flavours but they’ve seasoned it so well that I could have just had it on its own. Also, never had I had mango lassi in such a fancy glass. Serving size was also quite big for the lassi, so best not gulp down all of it as it will interfere with your dinner! Service was also really good. The waiters were friendly and accommodative. I am already looking forward to my next meal here again. EDIT: ordered take away from them and the food was lovely but I have to say 6.50 for 2 samosas is a complete rip off!

Welcoming and elegant location, excellent food and well trained staff. A great experience if you want to try some excellent indian cuisine, Amazing whiskey collection. Very recommended.

Restaurant really cared for in detail. It was my first time in an Indian restaurant: very good quality food and very friendly and professional staff. If I were to return to Utrecht, I would definitely go back. Highly recommended restaurant ??

They were lovely enough to welcome us even the kitchen was closing in less than 10 minutes! Kudos for their hospitality. The food was nice, spicy level was very good and I rarely say that. I loved it, but not all my friends appreciated it. Their green chutney was also very strong flavoured. The food was not very fresh, but it was quite late. They could definitely improve the platings, but in terms of service we really appreciated their staff! Seemed more like a bar than a restaurant so I guess is a pretty nice place if you want to hang around and have some drinks after dinner.
